I discovered photography in the late 1980s. I was working as a
paralegal but took art classes at night. I was predominantly a painter
but often copied images from National Geographic or other magazines.
When my now ex-husband suggested that I purchase a camera and paint
from my own photographs I wound up taking photography classes at the
Atlanta College of Art. I remember watching the photographic image come
up in the developer and I was immediately hooked.
Since then, I have photographed in many places and have met many people
along the way. Much of my work is documentary but as you can see from
my mixed media work, I often incorporate photographs in my paintings. At one point, I was painting directly on the silver gelatin print.
My documentary work includes work in communities which I still pursue.
I enjoy documenting changes in communities and poking around in
abandoned spaces. I continue to enjoy photographing nature, especially
trees.
